Fire Protection Impairment Permit Request

A Fire Protection Impairment Permit is required for any work involving the temporary disabling of fire protection or life safety systems to prevent false alarm activation on campus.

OFFICIAL NOTICE: PERMIT AND WORK REQUIREMENTS

Effective immediately, all routine work conducted between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. shall require a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours’ advance notice.

Any work performed outside of standard permitting hours (after 3:30 p.m.) must be scheduled and coordinated in advance by the permit holder with the University of Memphis Facilities and Maintenance Department. This department retains responsibility for oversight and authorization of all work conducted outside normal permitting hours.

All required permits must be fully completed and prominently displayed in the affected work area, as well as on the appropriate fire alarm or sprinkler system panel, for the entire duration of the impairment.

For questions regarding permit requirements or completion, please contact Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at EHS@memphis.edu or by telephone at 901-678-2829 during regular business hours (7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.). EHS provides guidance on permit procedures and is responsible for permit approval only for after-hours work; EHS does not schedule or coordinate such work.

Failure to comply with these requirements may result in delays, work stoppage, or other administrative action.
